Bookbinding

Fold, stitch and press your own book with one of the last traditional bookbinders in Tunis.

The craft

One of the last bookbinders in Tunis

In a historic atelier in the Medina, you learn to make a book the old way, folding the pages, stitching the spine by hand and pressing the finished block, guided by a bookbinder practicing a craft that is quietly disappearing.

By the end you hold something genuinely useful and entirely yours, a notebook to write, sketch or give, made by your own hands.

Why it’s good for you

The calm of making by hand

No. 1

Rhythmic and meditative

The repetitive motion of stitching works like meditation: breathing slows, the heart rate steadies and stress eases. It is a hands-on way to quiet a busy head.

No. 2

Patience and precision

Every fold and stitch rewards care and attention to detail. Bookbinding is a gentle lesson in slowing down and doing one thing well.

No. 3

A real thing at the end

You walk out with a finished, handmade book, and the quiet pride that comes with it, while helping keep an endangered craft in living practice.
